This MSc is designed to give clinicians a deeper understanding of sports medicine, sports injuries and exercise medicine. The programme covers the evidence-based management of sports medicine and musculoskeletal injuries, and emphasises the vital role of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease.

Sports sciences study human movement and exercise and the health benefits that arise from practising physical activity. The study of sports sciences integrates theoretical knowledge about the structures and mechanisms of the human body, nutrition, and technical education on optimising performance.

This programme is designed to provide its students with a more in-depth level of understanding and a sound basis in research and analytical skills in relation to sport and exercise medicine.

Our sport and exercise science laboratories contain industry-standard equipment including 3D motion capture suite, high speed treadmills, metabolic carts for the assessment of cardiorespiratory responses, force plates, hydrostatic weighing tank for assessing body composition, full haematology suite, an array of cycle and rowing ergometers, GPS systems for field work and eye-tracking glasses.

Our MSc Sport and Exercise Science is designed to help you progress within the sport and exercise science sector. This could be to help you secure an internship as a new graduate, or to allow you to apply for promotions if you are already an experienced practitioner in employment.

Your MSc by Dissertation is usually completed in one year, with a maximum thesis length of 30,000 words.

It will also prepare you for The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) accreditation as a Sport and Exercise Scientist (Sport Psychologist), should you choose this route. The Sport and Exercise Psychology MSc consists of compulsory and optional modules and a 15,000 word dissertation.
